Your responsibilities
The Lead development engineer:
- Leads the technical realization of the product, according to required functionality, quality, throughput time and price.
- Is coaching his project team and has a senior role in the whole team of product developers.
- Stays state of the art on knowledge of applicable technologies, and generates knowledge on the specific applications and components or modules.
Your team
IDA (Innovation Domestic Appliances) is Philips' main development site for domestic appliances. In Drachten products are developed in four Innovation Teams, one for each business unit: Kitchen Appliances, Beverage Appliances, Water and Air and Floor Care. These teams are very multifunctional: besides product developers (mainly mechanical engineers), they consist of marketeers, designers, quality specialists, product researchers, physicists, electrical and software engineers, test engineers, etc.
The product development department takes care of translating consumer whishes into tangible products. Product developers play a role from early phases, safeguarding technical feasibility, to the later project phases in which it is their responsibility to release a product according to specification. A product developer is active in a wide field, ranging from first sketches and feasibility studies to off-tool component release. All in close-contact with the product developers and the rest of the project team and supply companies, with end-users and other stakeholders clearly in mind.
Products developed for Floor Care range from OEM-products to fully in-house developed innovations, and hence projects range from managerial challenges to more technical challenges. The Floor Care team consists of about 60 people, of which 10-15 are in the product development group.

We are looking for
The candidate has a master’s degree (or comparable level trough experience), experience in designing consumer products, leading teams, constructing in plastics and using DfSS methodology (advantageous). He or she has excellent communicative and people skills, has a clear opinion on product development and products at stake. English reading, speaking and writing skills are required.
The candidate is a T-Shaped engineer, with a wide interest and experiences, who can dig deep as well. Can abstract and extrapolate knowledge from and to different fields, and pragmatically use this knowledge. The candidate is a clear team leader.
