Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation
The countryside gives us food, but it is also nature and landscape and the foundation of our green economy. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation works towards a balance between all these elements. We involve citizens, entrepreneurs, social organizations and civil servants. With respect for human, animal and environmental factors we ensure our healthy food. We ensure a valuable nature and a beautiful landscape which will be enjoyable for everyone, for now and for the future. Furthermore, by stimulating innovation we seek to ensure an agricultural economy, which will be internationally successful.
Living off the land, caring for nature
Office of Arrangements
An important part of the execution of the agricultural and nature policy is covered by one organization: the Office of Arrangements. For the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation, the Office of Arrangements deals with services in the fields of: manure management; financial, subsidy and EU-regulations; permits and waivers; the identification and registration of animals, parcels and relations; and crisis management. Besides these responsibilities, this office increasingly cooperates with (semi)governmental organizations.
The Office of Arrangements puts practice over regulations. The office wishes to enhance the effectiveness of its policy and to reduce the administrative burdens for the sector and the government. That is why this office puts so much effort in informing the people, a sector-oriented approach and an efficient way of working. Moreover, because of its experience in the practice, the agency advises policy makers with the development, interpretation and execution of regulations.
The EL&I-window is an important feature of the Office of Arrangements, as it is its central Customer Contact Centre, where farmers, intermediates and others employed in the agricultural sector can go to if they have any questions and/or remarks. The Office of Arrangements is an agency of the Netherlands as well as an agency of the EU and has branches in Assen, Den Haag, Deventer and Roermond.
Food and Product Safety Authority
The society asks for a secure and healthy food and safe products, which are produced with respect for humans, animals and the environment. The new VWA takes, bearing this in mind, her responsibility in a Risk-taking, Decisive and Transparent way. These core values are our incentives. We made this choice, because they exactly symbolize what we stand for. We aim our activities in particular at threats to humans, animals and plants, as well as the environment in which the production, processing and consumption of (animal) food and consumer products takes place. We have chosen for a division structure, concentration of working spaces and expanding the employability of our employees in order to adjust smoothly to new developments and to perform decisively if (new) incidents or crises may occur. Moreover, we want to show what we do and what the costs were, to both our owner/commissioner the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation, VWS and politics as a whole as well as towards the corporate life and civilians/consumers.
Office of Rural Area
The Office of Rural Area has worked for over 75 years for the development of the rural area. The office does this by translating policy into accurate plans and overseeing the execution of these plans. It concerns planning of the development of nature, agriculture, water and/or recreation. In order to execute these plans we obtain land and re-arrange these lands. Afterwards we hand them over to the managing agencies or farmers. We also bring flows of money together and have insight in subsidy possibilities.
The Office of Rural Area works within one assignment for multiple governmental layers. Our expanding network of governmental layers and organizations helps us to realize projects. In short: this office realizes green plans for 16 million Dutchmen! This office is an agency for the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation.
