Hanze University Groningen, University of Applied Sciences
Working for the Hanze University Groningen means working for the largest Higher Vocational Education institution of the north: more than 24.000 students from the Netherlands and abroad, more than 70 different courses. We employ around 2600 staff members who work in a dynamic and ambitious environment. Development is our focus, for both our students and our staff.
Structure
The Hanze University Groningen consists of nineteen ‘schools’ and the business service HanzeConnect. The education at the schools is given in an international fashion and is very flexible. The students have much freedom in what they choose to do, and the college offers many possibilities. HanzeConnect offers a large amount of courses, (post Higher Vocational Education) studies, trainings and workshops.
Corporate Academy
For training of staff members we have the supply of the Corporate Academy. This supply consists of courses and training that are relevant for the staff. For example courses focused on research skills, internationalization (languages / cultural sensitivity), IT and communicative/social skills.
Research
The Hanze University Groningen is developing from an education institute to an international orientated institute of knowledge. We have chosen a few research topics which are related to a centre of knowledge. In a knowledge centre, lecturers and schools work together on multidisciplinary research. The centres of knowledge are also closely involved with the development of different courses of the Hanze University Groningen. They play an important role in closing the gap between education and practice. On the subject of the knowledge centre the lectures develop a specific knowledge domain. They generate knowledge and bring that knowledge back to the field of activity, to curriculums of initial courses and to post graduate and refresher courses for the field of activity. We try to involve as many staff members and students of the Hanze University Groningen in research and the development of knowledge products.
Working at the Hanze University Groningen
The Hanze University offers great fringe benefits, for example paid maternity leave, compensation for use of public transportation or bike, cheap use of sporting facilities, wellness facilities like meditation classes and massages and for every staff member we have a training budget. The project “Focus on Ambitions” will work on sustainable staff policy, which will focus on the development of staff members and how to do labour in a healthy and motivated way.
History
The history of the Hanze University Groningen dates back to 1798, when the Academy for Drawing, Construction and Shipping was founded. The name Hanze is chosen with the link of undertaking and trade in mind.
